LPPM UNHAS Research and Development Center for Natural Resources Holds Cooperation Meeting with PT Vale Indonesia
Makassar, October 22, 2024 – The Research and Development Center for Natural Resources (PUSLITBANG SDA) of LPPM UNHAS held a cooperation meeting with PT Vale Indonesia on Tuesday (22/10). The meeting aimed to formulate the utilization of marine spatial planning, which will serve as a guideline for the sustainable management of marine resources. This activity commenced in September and is scheduled to run until December.
The meeting, held at the PUSLITBANG SDA office, was attended by various relevant stakeholders, including the research team, environmental experts, and representatives from PT Vale. In the opening session, the Head of PUSLITBANG SDA, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abd. Rasyid J., M. Si, emphasized the importance of collaboration between governmental institutions and the private sector in efforts to conserve the marine ecosystem and support economic growth.
“This meeting is expected to provide a clear framework for sustainable marine spatial utilization, enabling us to maintain a balance between industrial interests and environmental sustainability,” stated the Head of PUSLITBANG SDA.
During the discussion, both parties addressed various aspects, including mapping areas for potential utilization, environmental impact, and local community participation. PT Vale also conveyed its commitment to contributing to the development of environmentally friendly technology to be used in their operational activities at sea.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to proceed with the drafting of the document and to schedule follow-up meetings to discuss the progress and results of the study conducted. This collaboration is expected to be a positive first step toward more responsible and sustainable management of marine resources in Indonesia.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that the utilization of marine space can be carried out wisely, in line with efforts to preserve the environment and improve community welfare.
