Mahakam River Basin Management: LPPM Unhas and Mahakam Ulu PUPR Office Agree on Scientific Study
The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Hasanuddin University strengthens its role as a research institution that contributes to national development. On Thursday (20/3), LPPM Unhas received a visit from the Mahakam Ulu Regency Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Area Agency (PUPR) to sign a cooperation contract related to the Preparation of a Study on Control and Utilization of the Mahakam River Basin (DAS). This activity took place in Meeting Room A of the LPPM Unhas Building.
This agreement aims to support sustainable spatial planning in Mahakam Ulu Regency, particularly in terms of controlling land use in the watershed area. The Head of the PUPR-PKP Office of Mahakam Ulu, Didik Subagya, SE., M.Si., who was present along with other relevant officials, emphasized the importance of this cooperation in the preparation of a Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) based on scientific studies.
“We hope that the collaboration with LPPM Unhas can provide a more measurable policy direction in spatial planning, especially in the Mahakam watershed area. In addition, we are also open to collaboration in other sectors to support more comprehensive regional development,” said Mr. Didik.
In response, the Head of LPPM Unhas expressed his appreciation for the trust given by the Mahakam Ulu Regency Government. “We are grateful for this opportunity. LPPM Unhas has extensive experience in conducting studies on spatial control and utilization, with collaborations spread across various regions in Indonesia. In addition, we also have a complete research center, so we are very open to collaboration in other fields,” he said.
In line with this, the Secretary of LPPM Unhas, Prof. Suharman Hamzah, emphasized that the academic-based research conducted by Unhas is supported by human resources with multidisciplinary expertise. “We have a research center that is not only well-equipped but also managed by academics and researchers who are experienced in their fields,” explained Prof. Suharman.
The signing of this cooperation agreement reaffirms LPPM Unhas’ commitment to strengthening its contribution to regional development through applied research and scientific studies. With a data-driven and academic approach, this collaboration is expected to serve as a model for science-based spatial management for sustainable development in Mahakam Ulu Regency.
