Through the Disaster Studies Center, LPPM UNHAS Signs Cooperation Agreement with BPBD of Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province

Makassar, January 16, 2025 The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), through its Disaster Studies Center, signed a cooperation agreement with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province. The event was held at the UNHAS campus with the aim of increasing disaster management capacity in the region.
The signing of the cooperation contract was attended by the Head of LPPM UNHAS Prof. dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D Sp.MK, Head of the UNHAS Disaster Studies Center, and the BPBD team of Central Mamuju Regency. In his remarks, the Head of the UNHAS Disaster Studies Center, Dr. Ilham Alimuddin, stated that this cooperation is a strategic step in developing a disaster mitigation system based on research and community empowerment.
“Through this cooperation, we hope to make a real contribution in helping the local government deal with the potential disasters that often occur in the Mamuju Tengah region, especially in terms of preparedness and rapid response in emergency situations,” said Dr. Ilham.
Meanwhile, the Mamuju Tengah Regency BPBD Team welcomed this cooperation and hoped to strengthen the synergy between academia and local government in disaster management efforts. “With this collaboration, we hope to obtain research and innovation support that can accelerate the disaster management process and increase community resilience to natural disasters,” he said.
This collaboration covers various fields, including the development of an early warning system, training for BPBD officers, and research and development of technology to minimize the impact of disasters. In addition, UNHAS will also be involved in the formulation of data-based policies and research to improve preparedness and response to disasters in Central Mamuju Regency.
With this collaboration, it is hoped that better synergy can be created in facing future disaster challenges and strengthening the resilience of the people of Central Mamuju Regency in facing potential disaster threats.
