Halal Inspection Center and Parepare City Government Provide Halal Food Safety Guarantee for the Community

The Halal Inspection Center (PPH), LPPM Unhas, and the Parepare City Government followed up on the MoU that had been signed by providing guarantees of food safety that is halal for consumption by the community. This collaboration was strengthened by the holding of a Socialization of the Implementation of the Halal Assurance System in the Animal-Based Food Processing Industry of Parepare City at Bappeda Parepare on Friday (March 10, 2023).

Dr. Nahariah, Head of the Halal Inspection Center at LPPM Unhas, and Muh Nur, secretary of the task force and resource person, participated in the event as resource persons. Also present was Dr. Nurdin, Secretary of the Marine and Fisheries Department (PKP) of Parepare, who served as a speaker regarding the condition of the Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH) and poultry slaughterhouse (RPU) or Poultry Slaughtering Facility (TPU) in order to implement the halal certification system in Parepare.

Zulkarnaen Nasrun, Secretary of the Parepare Regional Development Planning Agency, explained that this activity is a follow-up to the cooperation agreement between the Parepare City Government and PPH LPPM Unhas regarding halal products. “Through this cooperation, the Parepare City Government and Unhas are ready to provide food safety guarantees that are halal for consumption by the community,” said Zulkarnaen.

According to Nahariah, Head of PPH LPPM Unhas, she and her team are ready to assist and support Parepare in providing safe and halal food products. “In implementing the halal assurance system in the animal-based food processing industry, the starting point is livestock farming. Therefore, Unhas will assist and accompany them,” Nahariah emphasized.

Meanwhile, Muh Nur, Secretary of the South Sulawesi Ministry of Religious Affairs Halal Task Force, is promoting Indonesia’s halal certification policy. He explained that by October 17, 2024, all food must be halal verified. “If it does not have a halal certificate, it will be subject to sanctions ranging from written warnings and fines to product recalls,” Nur reminded.

Participants in this activity included the Parepare Manpower Office, the Parepare Health Office, the Parepare PKP Office, which presented Halal Slaughterers (JULEHA) at RPH/RPU and TPU in traditional markets, and the Parepare Trade Office, which included meat grinding service owners, beef sellers in traditional markets, chicken stall owners/sellers in traditional markets, and chicken and beef service/shop owners.
