Collaboration between PKR Mikroba Karst LPPM Unhas and PT Vale Industry in Refining Microbial Studies on Post-Mining Land
The Karst Microbe Research Collaboration Center at LPPM Unhas began a research collaboration with PT. Vale in Sorowako, located in Nuha District, East Luwu Regency, on Wednesday (1/11).
This initiative is the first step in an effort to deepen research on microbes in post-mining land and the maintenance of biodiversity. PT. Vale, a leading mining company, is partnering with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in a collaboration that aims to support sustainable and environmentally conscious industry.
In an effort to achieve sustainable cooperation, PT. Vale and LPPM UNHAS are focusing on understanding microbes in post-mining land, while considering aspects of sustainability and biodiversity in the Sorowako area. The goal is to minimize the impact of mining activities on the surrounding environment and maintain the balance of nature. The UNHAS LPPM Karst Microbe Research Collaboration Center, led by the Head of UNHAS LPPM, Prof. dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D, has begun collecting samples and data in the Vale forest as the first step in this research project.
The collaboration between PT. Vale and UNHAS LPPM reflects a shared commitment to supporting responsible and sustainable natural resource management. With the assistance of a research team consisting of KPR (Engineering Research Group) and KEDAIREKA (Research Group for Economic Support and Conservation in Sulawesi’s Endemic Biodiversity Areas), it is hoped that the research results and innovations produced will bring positive benefits to the environment, local communities, and PT. Vale’s industry. This collaboration will be an important milestone in preserving the highly valuable biodiversity and natural ecosystems.
