UNHAS LPPM Disaster Study Center Holds Sharing Session on "Introduction to Careers in the Disaster Management Sector"
Monday, November 4, 2024 – The Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) once again held a Sharing Session themed “Introduction to Careers in the Disaster Management Sector.” This activity was organized to provide deeper insights and understanding regarding career opportunities in this crucial sector, both at the national and international levels.
The event was held on the 3rd Floor of the LPPM UNHAS Building and was attended by students, academics, and practitioners interested in the field of disaster management. The Sharing Session also featured several competent speakers in disaster management, including experienced professionals in disaster response, risk management, and disaster mitigation policies.
On this occasion, participants were invited to gain a closer understanding of the various career paths available to individuals interested in pursuing a career in the disaster sector, ranging from government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the private sector involved in post-disaster recovery. Furthermore, the speakers also discussed the various challenges faced in this sector and the necessary competencies required to succeed in the field.
The Head of the UNHAS LPPM Center for Disaster Studies, Ilham Alimuddin, S.T., M.GIS, Ph.D, stated in his address that the activity aimed to broaden the perspective of students and the general public regarding the vital role of the disaster management sector in sustainable development. “Disaster is not only about facing natural hazards; it also involves mitigation efforts, preparedness, and recovery. We hope that through this event, participants can prepare themselves and gain a deeper understanding of the career opportunities available in this sector,” he stated.
The event also provided an opportunity for participants to interact directly with the speakers through a question-and-answer session, making the learning experience more interactive and meaningful. Moreover, the UNHAS LPPM Center for Disaster Studies reaffirmed its commitment to continuously supporting human resource capacity development in the disaster sector through relevant training and educational programs.
With this Sharing Session activity, it is expected that more individuals will be interested and ready to contribute to building community and environmental resilience against various disaster threats in the future.
