The Unhas Disaster Studies Center, together with DMC Ikatek Unhas, held a discussion on flood disaster preparedness in the city of Makassar.
The Hasanuddin University Disaster Studies Center held a discussion in Room B of the Unhas LPPM Meeting Room on Wednesday (12/28).
The discussion was led by the Head of the Unhas Disaster Studies Center, Dr. Eng. Ilham Alimuddin, MGIS. The event was attended by representatives from several institutions involved in disaster management, including the Hasanuddin University Geological Engineering Alumni Association, the South and West Sulawesi Regional Board of the Indonesian Geologists Association, the Department of Geological Engineering, the Hasanuddin University Ikatek DMC, and the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Forestry Watershed Laboratory. Representatives from P3ESuma and BMKG also attended online.
This activity was carried out in response to the extreme weather conditions that had occurred in recent times, particularly in the city of Makassar. The Unhas Disaster Study Center took steps to understand the hydrometeorological conditions and develop plans to anticipate the impact of these conditions in the future.
“The latest mapping of flood-affected areas from Radar Satellite Imagery (Sentinel 1), which has been processed in such a way as to produce a delineation of flooded areas, can be used as a reference for evacuation and further field visits,” said Dr. Eng. Ilham.
Muh. Syukri Turusi, Chairman of DMC IKATEK-UNHAS, shared his views on the importance of good hexahelix disaster management in order to develop appropriate programs for flood and landslide prevention and management.
“DMC IKATEK-UNHAS itself already has more than 20 Danareksa Holding BUMN groups prepared to support the programs promoted by the Unhas disaster study center. In addition, we are ready to assist in providing disaster education to the community as preparation for dealing with emergency conditions, especially for residents living in areas with high disaster risk,” explained Mr. Syukri.
