PUSLITBANG SDA LPPM UNHAS Holds Technical Study Seminar on Fish Seed Center in Collaboration with PSDA LPPM UNHAS and the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office
Monday, December 9, 2024 Research and Development Center (PUSLITBANG) Natural Resources (SDA) Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) held a technical review seminar on the Fish Seed Center (BBI), which is the result of collaboration between the Natural Resources Study Center (PSDA) LPPM UNHAS and the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office. This seminar aimed to explore the potential for developing and managing fish seed centers as a solution for improving food security and community welfare, especially in the fisheries sector.
The seminar, which took place at the LPPM UNHAS Building, was attended by various parties, including academics, fisheries practitioners, and officials from the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office. During the seminar, the speakers presented the results of technical studies related to the management of fish seed centers, focusing on improving the quality of fish seeds produced and their impact on the productivity of the local fisheries sector.
The Head of PUSLITBANG SDA LPPM UNHAS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abd. Rasyid J, M.Si, in his speech explained the importance of fish hatcheries as an effort to support food security through the fisheries sector. “This study provides an important overview of the technical and efficient management of fish hatcheries, which can improve the quality of fishery products, which in turn will contribute to food security and community welfare,” said Prof. Cido.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office, EVY APRIALTI, SE., MM, on the same occasion stated that the collaboration between UNHAS and the city government is very strategic in order to increase natural resource capacity, especially in the fisheries sector. “With a professionally managed fish hatchery, it is hoped that the needs for quality fish seeds for fish farmers in Makassar can be met, which will ultimately increase catch and fishery production,” she said.
During the seminar, the speakers also discussed various technical aspects that need to be considered in managing fish hatcheries, ranging from selecting the right fish species, water quality management, to the use of the latest technology to accelerate the breeding process. In addition, the importance of training and assistance for fish farmers in Makassar was also highlighted so that they can make optimal use of the fish hatchery.
This seminar is also expected to serve as a bridge between the academic world and the government in formulating research-based policies for better natural resource management, as well as opening opportunities for the development of the fisheries sector in the city of Makassar. As a follow-up, PUSLITBANG SDA LPPM UNHAS plans to conduct a more in-depth study on fish hatchery management that can be adopted by other regions in Indonesia.
This seminar reaffirms PUSLITBANG SDA LPPM UNHAS’ commitment to supporting the development of the fisheries sector through research based on sustainable and pro-people natural resource management.
